Welcome Back
Term 3
I am
thoroughly looking forward to this term.
We have a lot planned and are going to be trying out our new classroom
layout, it certainly will take a while for everyone to get used to (me
included). I have been bargain hunting
all holidays to get comfortable equipment.
I look forward to seeing how the children enjoy the new areas of our
classroom. Have a look on out blog for
updates of how we position the furniture.
We have
skiing this term and speeches in week 2.
Speeches will be written in week 1 and practised over the weekend and in
the first part of week 2. They will be
presented on Thursday 31st July a timetable will go out closer to
the time.
Our main
inquiry topic this term is ‘Where does ………. come from?’ It is a technology topic that looks at where
food, equipment and clothing comes from and the process it goes through. We are starting by looking at mainly food
ideas. This is a really important
concept for all of us to understand.
During our
reading time I have included some science into our learning, this was something
that our team identified as being a ‘passion’.
I am hoping to look at acids and bases and using litmus paper, salt
crystals, growing seeds and making and testing a parachute. I hope that this will encourage the children
to think about the surroundings differently and maybe spark an interest that
can be added onto during the years to come, science certainly is in a lot of
jobs. Our other ‘passion’ that our team identified
was art and I hope to add more of this in, we are doing print making and 3D
form this term.
Our first
topic in maths is Position and orientation, it looks at map reading, directions
and compass reading. We will then be
working on addition and subtraction strategies during our numeracy time.
Our writing
topic is speeches and then instructional writing, during the term we will also
look at scientific reports and how we can put what we are learning into a
report.
We have Fire
wise during the first week and the Life Education Bus the last week of this
term as well.
We have a
big push on our reading this term, try and read every night. I have included the reading log with the
weekends as I know the weeks can be very busy, and in the weekends there is a
little more time. It would be great to
aim for 5 out of 7 days.
I wish all
the farmers, all the best for Calving and Lambing. May the weather be kind to us all!
